The Championship Year

1978 was a special year for the Wizards franchise, winning their one and only NBA Championship. Considered a long shot by many, the then Washington Bullets, led by future hall of fames Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld grinded their way to the NBA finals. The team famously embraced the motto "the opera ain't over 'til the fat lady sings," and it took all 7 games of the final series for the Bullets to emerge victorious and deliver Washington's first pro championship in any sport in 36 years. To this day it remains the only time in which the deciding game 7 of a championship series was won by the visiting team.
